The basics
OBASHI® is a way of thinking that helps users gain a clear picture of how their business works and is available as a methodology, a professional accreditation and software.

Anyone in the business seeking to manage change, risk, costs, data, performance and the bottom line more effectively. ITSM; project management; programme/portfolio management; data quality and data management; enterprise architecture; operations management; C-level execs; service providers; business leaders; business managers.
Summary
OBASHI documents, maps and models how people, process and technology interact to make a business work and displays the results in a way which both technical and non-technical people can easily understand.
The process is sequential and consists of 6 layers:
- Ownership
- Business Process
- Application
- System
- Hardware
- Infrastructure
OBASHI Elements that represent the people, process and technology in a business are placed in these layers. The Ownership and Business Process layers contain information about how the business works; about the people in the business and the business processes. The lower four layers contain information about IT assets. A Business and IT diagram (B&IT) provides the framework to store this information usefully, in a way which is easy to understand and communicate across the business.
Data Analysis Views (DAVs) can then be developed which detail how data flows between people, process and technology, effectively connecting silos within the business – allowing users to “join the dots”.
The OBASHI Methodology manual was developed with Best Management Practice experts in ITIL©, Prince2©, MSP© and P3O©. Consequently, OBASHI acts as a shared language and common delivery platform for many best practices as it helps put the practical challenges associated with individual best practices in a real life shared context. This improved business clarity means less ambiguity in decision-making at all levels: strategically, operationally, technically and tactically.
The OBASHI Methodology was first published in 2010 by The Stationery Office, which also publishes ITIL©, Prince2©, MSP© and P3O©. OBASHI is owned by OBASHI Ltd, Scotland, UK.
Scope and constraints
OBASHI is appropriate for any type of organization regardless of its size, complexity, location, or sector.
